Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center CEO retires 1 day before sale to HCA is complete

Houston-based Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center CEO Terry Wheeler retired, ending a 14-year tenure, according to a Community Impact Newspaper report.

Mr. Wheeler worked at Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare since 1988, when he began his career as a controller. Tenet is the former parent of Cypress Fairbanks. Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare bought the hospital, effective Aug. 1. Mr. Wheeler retired on July 31.

During his tenure as Cypress Fairbanks CEO, Mr. Wheeler oversaw the expansion of the hospital's intensive care unit and neonatal ICU services. He helped plan Tenet's first freestanding emergency department.

Mr. Wheeler also served numerous organizations outside the hospital, including the Cy-Fair Sports Association, Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce and American Heart Association.

Hospital COO Naman Mahajan is serving as interim CEO, according to the report.
