Tim Hingtgen plans to retire as CEO of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, effective Sept. 30.
President and CFO Kevin Hammons will become interim CEO upon Mr. Hingtgen’s retirement, according to a July 23 health system news release. Jason Johnson, senior vice president and chief accounting officer, will serve as interim CFO.
Mr. Hingtgen has spent nearly 18 years at Community Health Systems, which operates 70 hospitals and more than 1,000 sites of care across 14 states. He became CEO in 2021 after serving as president and COO from 2016 to 2020.
“My decision to retire this year is for personal reasons, including a desire to spend more time with my family and to pursue a few dreams I have for my life,” Mr. Hingtgen said in the release. “This is the right time for me to do that. CHS is a great organization, and I’m confident that it will continue to advance in every possible way under the capable leadership of Kevin Hammons and the many other people who are leading CHS forward.”
Mr. Hingtgen will also retire from the system’s board and is expected to enter into a consulting agreement to continue advising CHS’ management team on healthcare operations.
Mr. Hammons has been with the health system’s finance team for more than 28 years and was named CFO in 2020.
Mr. Johnson joined CHS in 2012 as vice president and assistant corporate controller. He was promoted to corporate controller in 2018 and chief accounting officer in 2019.
