CommonSpirit names new CFO

Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health has named Michael Browning its next senior executive vice president and CFO, effective Jan. 2. 

Mr. Browning will join CommonSpirit from Columbus-based OhioHealth, where he has served as executive vice president and CFO since 2019 and has more than 30 years of healthcare finance experience, according to an Oct. 13 news release shared with Becker’s. 

He succeeds Daniel Morissette, who is retiring. Mr. Morissette has served as the system’s CFO since it was formed in 2019 through the merger of San Francisco-based Dignity Health and Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives. 

In his new role, Mr. Browning will oversee all financial operations for the system, which includes 138 hospitals and more than 2,200 care sites across 24 states, according to the release. He will be responsible for the health system’s financial strategy, planning, accounting, treasury, reimbursement, revenue cycle and investor relations.
