Minneapolis-based Children’s Minnesota has made several key leadership changes to support its strategic plan following the retirement of Susan Sencer, MD, clinical vice president of specialty pediatrics who has worked with the organization for more than 35 years.
Dr. Sencer joined Children’s Minnesota’s cancer and blood disorder programs in 1991. From 2001 to 2016, she served as the program’s medical director. During her tenure, she led efforts to advance supportive care services and specialty programs for children with cancer, including the launch of an integrative medicine program.
The following leadership changes will take effect May 9, following Dr. Sencer’s retirement, according to a news release shared with Becker’s:
Aimee Sznewajs, MD, will succeed Dr. Sencer as clinical vice president of specialty pediatrics, managing a wide range of specialty services, including medical imaging, hospital medicine, cancer and blood disorders, and emergency departments.
Tim Lander, MD, will oversee critical care services. He currently serves as clinical vice president of surgery. Under the expanded role, pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care, neurosciences and cardiovascular services will report to Dr. Lander.
Anupam Kharbanda, MD, will serve as vice president of clinical innovation and transformation, working closely with growth, strategy and finance teams to adopt new models of care. He previously served as clinical vice president of critical care services.
Children’s Minnesota said the new structure reflects its 2025-2027 strategic plan, which includes optimizing clinical operations and expanding access to specialized care. It also prioritizes efforts to redesign care delivery models through partnerships and innovation.
