CEO of Bon Secours Virginia to retire in August

Peter Bernard, CEO of Bon Secours Virginia, will retire in August after a 15-year tenure as chief.

Mr. Bernard has more than 40 years of experience in healthcare leadership. Over 15 years, Mr. Bernard created more than 8,000 new jobs at the system and helped expand the Bon Secours Medical Group from 50 providers in Richmond to 800 providers statewide.

Part of nonprofit Marriottsville, Md.-based Bon Secours Health System, the Richmond-based Bon Secours Virginia includes eight acute-care hospitals, 12,500 employees and more than 800 providers.

Before joining Bon Secours in 2000, he previously served as president and CEO of Caritas Health Services in Louisville, Ky.

“Since joining Bon Secours as the chief executive officer for Richmond-area operations in 2000, Peter has been a dedicated leader, steering the ministry through challenging economic times, encouraging innovation and empowering the management team to pursue new market opportunities,” said Richard J. Statuto, Bon Secours’ president and CEO.  

Mr. Bernard’s successor was not specified.
