James Sly has been appointed CEO of the Grossmont Healthcare District in La Mesa, Calif., effective Dec. 15.
The board of directors approved Mr. Sly’s selection in a 5-0 vote during its Nov. 4 meeting, following a nationwide recruitment process, according to a Nov. 4 district news release shared with Becker’s. He will succeed Aaron Byzak, who has served as interim CEO since March.
Mr. Sly brings more than 15 years of executive leadership experience, including 13 years with the East County Economic Development Council and serving as its CEO since 2020. During his tenure, he led initiatives focused on healthcare workforce development and partnered with the district on its 2024 healthcare career pipeline project.
Mr. Byzak was appointed interim CEO after the board voted not to extend then-CEO Christian Wallis’ employment agreement beyond its current term, which expired in May.
