Matthew Zuino was selected as the next president and CEO of Jacksonville, Fla.-based Baptist Health, effective Jan. 17, 2026.
Mr. Zuino has served as COO of Baptist Health since 2020, according to a Nov. 18 news release. He will succeed Michael Mayo, who plans to step down as CEO Jan. 16. Mr. Mayo, who also holds a doctorate in healthcare administration, will transition to an executive-in-residence role before fully retiring from Baptist Health in December 2026.
During Mr. Zuino’s tenure as COO, Baptist Health’s net revenue has grown from $2 billion in fiscal year 2020 to a projected $3.7 billion in fiscal year 2026, the release said. He is credited as a key architect of the system’s vision for 2030.
“This is an exciting, transformational time at Baptist Health,” Mr. Zuino said in a prepared statement. “I feel very fortunate to build upon our 70-year legacy as the area’s only locally headquartered, mission-driven, faith-based health system.”
Before becoming COO, Mr. Zuino served as president of physician integration at Baptist Health. The system comprises six hospitals, 10 emergency centers and access to more than 200 points of outpatient care.
