Matthew Edwards, MD, has been appointed area president and CEO of Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, effective Sept. 14.
Dr. Edwards also will serve as executive vice president for clinical health affairs at Wake Forest University, according to a Sept. 3 health system news release shared with Becker’s.
He most recently served as chief physician executive for the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist area. He also is professor of vascular and endovascular surgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Dr. Edwards joined Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist more than 30 years ago and previously served as chair of vascular and endovascular surgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and chief of surgical operations at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist.
He will succeed Craig Greven, MD, who has served as interim CEO since April.
David Zaas, MD, was appointed CEO in January, and exited to become CEO of Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Health System, effective May 1.
Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is part of Charlotte, N.C.-based Advocate Health.
