Ascension taps Florida leader for Indiana CEO role

Don King was appointed CEO of Ascension St. Vincent in Indiana, part of St. Louis-based Ascension.

Mr. King will join Ascension St. Vincent Jan. 1, overseeing more than 15,000 employees, 19 hospitals and more than 300 care sites, according to a health system news release.

He brings extensive experience to the role, the release said. Most recently, he has served as CEO of Ascension Florida since 2022.

In Florida, he is credited with leading a financial turnaround while expanding access to ambulatory and high-acuity services. He is also credited with strengthening community partnerships, expanding the Dispensary of Hope to provide free and reduced-cost medications, and securing state funding to launch a Telehealth Maternity Program serving expectant mothers facing socioeconomic barriers.

Ascension said John Deardorff, regional operating officer at the health system, has been named interim ministry market CEO for Florida.
