Tiffany Means, DNP, RN, was appointed CEO of Eureka Springs (Ark.) Hospital, effective Aug. 1, according to a hospital Facebook post.

Dr. Means replaces Angie Shaw, who was terminated in November. Former Director of Nursing Jessica Petrino was also terminated that month. Both Ms. Shaw and Ms. Petrino have filed lawsuits against the hospital and six commission members, alleging wrongful termination.

Jodi Edmondson, the hospital’s human resources director, served as interim CEO and remains on staff, Sandy Royce Martin, chair of the Eureka Springs Hospital Commission, said, according to TalkBusiness.net.

While it still appears uncommon for CEOs of hospitals and health systems to have a nursing background, Dr. Means’ appointment adds to the growing list.

She has more than two decades of healthcare experience. She has held various roles, including nursing director of inpatient and emergency services at Chesterfield, Mo.-based Mercy Health System and working as an independent healthcare consultant.
