Another St. Elizabeth's Hospital executive resigns: 3 things to know

Shelly Harkins, MD, CMO of Belleville, Ill.-based St. Elizabeth's Hospital, has resigned after being selected as the first CMO of the Beacon Health System in South Bend, Ind., according to a Belleville News-Democrat report.

Here are three things to know about Dr. Harkins and her departure.

1. Her last day with St. Elizabeth's will be Aug. 7.

2. News of Dr. Harkins' resignation comes after Maryann Reese, president and CEO of St. Elizabeth's, announced her resignation last month. Ms. Reese, who was CEO of St. Elizabeth’s since January 2011, accepted a new position as executive vice president and COO of Saint Francis Health System in Cape Girardeau, Mo. St. Elizabeth's appointed CNO Shelley Harris, DNP, to serve as interim CEO. Dr. Harris began her new position Friday.

3. The hospital's parent company — Hospital Sisters Health System — will be conducting two searches — one for a permanent CEO and another for a CMO while moving forward with construction of its replacement hospital for St. Elizabeth's being built in O'Fallon, Ill.
