On Aug. 1, CEO David Keith announced his plans to retire, while CFO Sam Muse tendered his resignation on July 26, according to hospital news releases shared with Becker’s.

“Over the past year we have addressed our financial crisis and put ourselves on a path to sustainability,” Mr. Keith said in a release. “After stepping back and reflecting on the organization’s many achievements, I am ready to return to retirement and enjoy time with my grandkids. My hope for the future is that there’s stronger unity between the [City and Borough of Juneau] Assembly and the board about the strategic direction of the hospital.”

Mr. Muse said in a release, “The decision to come here was one of the best that I could have made. To meet, get to know, and work together with all the hard-working and dynamic people in this organization has invigorated me in ways I never could have imagined.

“At the end of the day, I hold my responsibility to my family above all else and so I made a personal decision based on what I felt best for us. I am proud of my time at Bartlett. I am proud of my co-workers at Bartlett. I will continue to be a strong advocate for the hospital.”

Mr. Keith added that “Sam has worked tirelessly to make tough decisions to correct the hospital’s financial position. I recognize the toll this has taken on his family. He will be incredibly difficult to replace.”

Mr. Keith and Mr. Muse joined the Bartlett team in August 2022. Mr. Keith joined as CEO, while Mr. Muse joined as controller. Mr. Muse became CFO in January.

Before joining Bartlett Regional, Mr. Keith was chief strategy officer of McAlester (Okla.) Regional Health Center. He also previously served as McAlester Regional’s president and CEO.
