A Week in Executive Moves: Dec. 20-23

The follow hospital and healthcare executive moves were announced in the past week.

1. Gary Wages, FACHE, president and CEO of Saint Luke’s Northland Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., has announced his retirement, effective March 11. Kevin Trimble, senior vice president and chief nursing officer at SLNH, will succeed Mr. Wages as CEO.

2. Waterbury (Conn.) Hospital has hired Stephen R. Laverty as interim president and CEO of the hospital and its network of affiliates. Mr. Laverty’s appointment is effective Jan. 3.

3. Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs, Wyo., has named Jerry Klein CEO, according to a B.E. Smith news release. Mr. Klein will assume his duties at the 99-bed hospital on Jan. 6.

4. Greensburg, Penn.-based Excela Health has named Michael Busch executive vice president and COO.

5. Regina Medical Center in Hastings, Minn., named Ty W. Erickson as CEO. Mr. Erickson’s new role with the hospital is effective Feb. 21, 2011.

6. Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, Calif., named Linda M. Smith as CEO. Ms. Smith will begin work at the 574-bed hospital in February.

7. The board of directors at Sharon (Penn.) Regional Health System requested and received the resignation of its president and CEO, John Zidansek.

8. Oregon Health & Science University in Portland hired Lawrence J. Furnstahl as CFO. Furnstahl’s position at OHSU is effective Jan. 3.

9. Kansas City, Mo.-based Saint Luke’s Health System has appointed John Leifer as chief marketing and chief innovation officer. Mr. Leifer’s position is effective Jan. 1.
