Brunswick-based Southeast Georgia Health System has appointed Bob Thornton as CFO, effective Aug. 17.
Mr. Thornton has nearly 40 years of healthcare finance leadership experience. He most recently served as senior vice president and CFO of Gainesville, Fla.-based UF Health Shands, overseeing the organization’s financial strategy and operations. UF Health Shands includes the University of Florida’s flagship academic medical center and four community hospitals across Central and Northeast Florida.
Mr. Thornton initially joined UF Health Shands as vice president of finance before being promoted to CFO.
Before joining UF Health, he served as executive vice president and CFO of Baltimore-based Greater Baltimore Medical Center and St. Petersburg, Fla.-based Bayfront Health System. He has also held financial leadership roles with Clearwater, Fla.-based BayCare Health System and St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg.
At Southeast Georgia Health System, Mr. Thornton will oversee financial strategy, planning, accounting, budgeting, revenue cycle, capital planning and long-term financial performance.
Mr. Thornton is a certified public accountant and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from the University of Florida.
