17 Hospital and Health System Executive Moves

The following hospital executive moves occurred within the past week, beginning with the most recent.

1. McDuffie Regional Medical Center in Thomson, Ga., named Sandra I. McVicker administrator.

2. James O’Loughlin, CEO of Carolinas Hospital System in Florence, S.C., will be stepping down to take a similar post at an unnamed Florida hospital.

3. Conrad Mallett, president of Detroit Medical Center’s Sinai-Grace Hospital, was promoted to the health system’s chief administrative officer. As a result of Mr. Mallett’s promotion, Reginald Eadie, MD, will step down as president of Detroit Receiving Hospital to become president of DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital. Meanwhile, Iris Taylor, chief business officer for DMC, will succeed Dr. Eadie at Detroit Receiving Hospital.

4. Anthony Tersigni, president and CEO of Ascension Health, will step down to lead at the helm of the new holding company Ascension Health Alliance. Robert Henkel, president of healthcare operations and COO of Ascension Health, will succeed Mr. Tersigni as CEO.

5. Eric Buehrens, COO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, stepped down for unknown reasons.

6. Palm Drive Hospital in Sebastopol, Calif., appointed Charles R. Guenther interim CEO.

7. Adair County Health System in Greenfield, Iowa, named Kevin Heinzeroth CFO.

8. Robert F. Guanci was appointed COO of Chesapeake (Va.) Regional Medical Center.

9. Karen Murphy, RN, president and CEO of Moses Taylor Health Care in Scranton, Pa., will transition to an interim leadership role with a community foundation that is being created as part of Community Health System’s recent acquisition of Moses Taylor. Aaron Hazzard will succeed her as interim CEO while a search is conducted for a permanent replacement.

10. Wade Broughman, CFO of Riverside Health System in Newport News, Va., was appointed COO but will serve in both roles until a permanent successor is found for the CFO position.

11. CEO Bud Wethington of Capital Regional Medical Center, an HCA facility in Tallahassee, Fla., is leaving to take the top post at Community Health Systems’ Tomball (Texas) Regional Medical Center.

12. Children’s Hospital and Health System in Milwaukee named Weldon Gage corporate vice president and chief financial officer, effective Jan. 30.

13. Joyce Hein was appointed interim administrator of Hancock Medical Center in Bay St. Louis, Miss.

14. Karen Wyble, COO of Heart Hospital of Lafayette (La.), departed for unexplained reasons.

15. Ramon Rodriguez was appointed the new chief of Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., after the hospital’s former chief was suddenly dismissed.

16. Barry H. Ostrowsky assumed the position of president and CEO of Barnabas Health, based in West Orange, N.J.

17. Don Henderson is stepping down as president and CEO of Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Ala., effective Jan. 31.
