CEO Kevin Brown: Social Media-Minded Leader at Piedmont Healthcare

Kevin Brown has served as president and CEO of Piedmont Healthcare in Atlanta, a nonprofit system with five hospitals, since May 2013.

Prior to taking the helm at Piedmont, Mr. Brown held a variety of leadership positions at Swedish Health Services in Seattle, including chief strategic officer and CEO. During his time there, Mr. Brown played a major role in implementing the affiliation agreement between Swedish and Providence Health & Services in February 2012. Additionally, he created and grew Swedish Medical Group and opened a new hospital Kevin-Brown-CEOin Issaquah, Wash., among other accomplishments.

Mr. Brown's experience at Swedish factored into him being chosen to lead Piedmont. "[Kevin] has a long track record of promoting partnerships with physician leaders and has demonstrated a commitment to keeping the patient at the center of organizational decisions with a relentless focus on quality and safety," Patrick Battey, MD, chair of the Piedmont Healthcare board of directors, said in a news release announcing Mr. Brown's appointment at Piedmont.

Mr. Brown has earned local and national recognition for his work as a healthcare leader. In 2004, he was named as one of Puget Sound Business Journal's "40 under 40." More recently, in 2013, he was named as one of Becker's Hospital Review's 130 Nonprofit Hospital and Health System CEOs to Know.

Not only is Mr. Brown a decorated healthcare leader, he is also a leader in social media. He was named on Becker's Hospital Review's list of 20 Hospital and Health System Leaders to Follow on Twitter for his use of the social media site. On his Twitter page, he shares healthcare news and tweets from conferences.

Mr. Brown earned a master's degree in healthcare administration from Arizona State University.
