VA Medical Center Data Breach Could Affect More Than 7k People

The William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, S.C., has informed 7,405 patients about a recent data breach, according to a Health IT Security report.

The breach involves an unprotected laptop containing patient names, birth dates, respiratory test results and partial Social Security numbers. The laptop is yet to be found.

According to the Department of Veteran Affairs, no information has been misused. It is offering a year’s worth of free credit monitoring services to patients affected by the breach.
