“Putin & I discussed forming an impenetrable Cyber Security unit so that election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded and safe,” President Trump tweeted July 9. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also indicated the establishment of a joint cybersecurity effort, according to The Hill.
Mr. Tillerson told reporters U.S. and Russian officials plan to implement a “working-level group” to address cyberthreats, The Hill reports. Mr. Lavrov told TASS, a Russian state news outlet, the countries will create a “bilateral working group” to discuss issues like anti-terrorism, organized crime and hacker activities, according to The Hill.
