The new technology includes more than 30 iPads. The iPads are mounted to the wall of each pre- and post-op patient bay and include a touchscreen checklist that medical staff uses to indicate a patient’s status with a time stamp. When a patient is assigned a bed in the surgery center, a nurse touches the iPad to begin tracking time of the patient’s stay.

“SIS Com and iPad technology works well together and enables UPMC Susquehanna’s medical staff to streamline patient operations and collect data while improving efficiency. We believe that overall this process is enhancing our patients’ experience,” anesthesiologist Shailesh Patel, MD, said in a statement.
