Top 5 areas health apps are booming

The use of mobile health apps is on the rise, and the National Institute of Health has taken note by increasing its funding for developing, testing and implementing of apps to $39.4 million, according to an American Medical Association post.

More than 20 NIH agencies are funding mobile health studies. Here are the top five health-strategy categories apps are being developed for:

  1. Monitoring and feedback: 192 apps
  2. Skills training: 85 apps
  3. Education and information: 85 apps
  4. Cognitive and behavioral therapies: 68 apps
  5. Facilitating, reminding and referring: 60 apps
