While patient demand for telehealth services is increasing, some physicians still have concerns regarding virtual visits. One survey from the Robert Graham Center found while 90 percent of family physicians said they would use telehealth to treat patients, just 15 percent reported doing so.
Some of physicians' key concerns with telehealth include the question of being reimbursed for providing such services, inefficiency of services, safeguarding patient information and questions regarding licensure.
However, the telehealth market is rapidly growing: The global market is expected to be valued at $35 billion by 2020, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 14 percent, according to a Zion Research report.
And, patients want access to telehealth services. A 2015 survey from American Well found 64 percent of Americans are willing to have virtual visits with their physicians. Seven percent of consumers said they would consider switching primary care physicians to one who offered telehealth visits.
Peter Antall, MD, CMO of telemedicine platform provider American Well, plans to discuss common questions physicians have regarding telehealth in a webinar on April 27.
