Survey Suggests Hospital CIOs Prioritize Networking, Security and Software Development Skills in New Hires

A survey conducted by Robert Half Technology, a company that staffs information technology professionals on a project and full-time basis, shows chief information officers expect a modest increase in hiring in the fourth quarter, according to a company news release.

Based on telephone interviews with more than 1,400 CIOs from companies across the country with 100 or more employees, the hiring index and skill report also shows nine percent of surveyed CIOs plan to add IT staff, and six percent foresee cutbacks before the end of the year.

Other key findings include the following:

•    Eighty-four percent of CIOs are at least somewhat confident in their companies’ growth prospects in the fourth quarter, with 37 percent being very confident.
•    Network administration skills remain the most in-demand among employers.
•    Information security and help desk/technical support are among the most challenging functional areas to find skilled professionals.
