Survey Indicates Top Five Reasons Providers Aren't Ready for Meaningful Use

According to the 2011 Black Book Ranking's user survey, approximately 90 percent of healthcare providers that purchased electronic medical records technology are off track to meet their meaningful use implementation goals, according to a company news release.

In the survey, EHR users indicated the following top five reasons they are not ready for meaningful use:

•    Ninety-three percent cited a lack of substantive support from their EHR vendor.
•    Eighty-nine percent delayed implementation due to the cost of additional support from EHR vendor or consultants.
•    Eighty-two percent reported a hurried selection of an EHR vendor, which led to negative consequences.
•    Seventy-seven percent cited lack of available and/or properly trained staff to properly implement an EHR.
•    Sixty-nine percent are unprepared and underfunded to rectify difficult system interfaces.
