Stolen Computers Cause Data Breach at Denver VA Hospital

The data of approximately 240 patients at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Denver has been compromised after two computers were stolen from the pulmonary lab at the hospital, according to an ABC7 report.

The computers recorded data from pulmonary function tests. They were stored on portable carts that were kept in a locked room in the hospital, said VA spokesperson Daniel Warvi in the report.

Mr. Warvi said the computers only have an application for the pulmonary tests, so there are no other programs such as email, according to the report. The data collected on the pulmonary application are encrypted, and a password is required to access the application itself, according to the report.

The VA is contacting affected patients and will offer them credit-monitoring services, according to the report.
