CHICA, licensed through Indianapolis-based Indiana University Research and Technology Corp., helps physicians prioritize patient concerns. In the hospital waiting room, families receive an electronic tablet, which asks 20 questions. These questions might concern general preventive counseling, chronic conditions, domestic violence or lead exposure, among other topics.
The CHICA software uses these responses to alert physicians to the issues they should prioritize during the appointment.
“The integration is intuitive and requires little provider training,” said Tammy Dugan, chief technology officer and cofounder of Digital Health Solutions. “Once the doctors have checked all the boxes, indicating how they responded to the alerts, the information is submitted as a block of text to EHR software that can then be incorporated into the provider’s note, thereby streamlining clinical documentation.”
