Here are four things to know about the agreement.
1. Elekta will sell Watson for Oncology paired within its own digital cancer care solutions, such as its MOSAIQ Oncology Information System. MOSAIQ centralizes patient information like radiation oncology, particle therapy and medical oncology data into a single user interface.
2. Watson for Oncology is a cloud-based platform that mines information from 300-plus medical journals and 200-plus textbooks to identify and rank relevant treatment options for individual breast, lung, colorectal, gastric, cervical and ovarian cancer patients.
3. Richard Hausmann, PhD, CEO of Elekta, said in a statement, “Joining forces with IBM Watson Health positions Elekta as the first radiation therapy company to offer capabilities that combine conventional health information systems with artificial intelligence and cognitive cloud computing.”
4. Elekta plans to sell Watson for Oncology alongside the company’s existing cancer care solutions in the U.S., Australia, Brazil and India, along with select European and Asian markets.
