The Healthcare IT Policy Committee’s Quality Measure Workgroup will be accepting recommendations from the public until Dec. 23 on quality measures for Stage 2 and Stage of meaningful use, according to a Healthcare IT News report.

The five core concepts for clinical quality measures are patient and family engagement, clinical appropriateness/efficiency, care coordination, patient safety and public health. The workgroup is specifically seeking public comment and examples of measures on the following criteria:

•    Capability of being built into an electronic health record system with support functions that will result in improved outcomes and/or clinical performance
•    Application across multiple types of physicians and care providers, healthcare settings and conditions
•    Supports potential improvements in population health and reduction of burden of illness
•    Assessment of health risk status and outcomes
•    Ability to analyze longitudinal, condition-specific, patient-focused episodes of care
