“[The Government Accountability Office] has identified improper incentive payments as the primary risk to the EHR incentive programs,” according to the work plan. “These programs may be at greater risk of improper payments than other programs because they are new and have complex requirements.”

The OIG releases the Work Plan twice a year to outline key areas and projects to review.

In addition to reviewing the payments for EHR incentive programs, the OIG also plans to audit covered entities participating in the programs to determine the security of their certified EHR technology.
