Because nurses work inconsistent hours, scheduling conflicts and confusion are common. The app’s developers claim that by keeping closer track of scheduling and having more ability to contact coworkers will help nurses avoid conflicts.

Available for free on the iPhone, NurseGrid works independently of a clinic or hospital’s scheduling system, but syncs with it to more easily allows nurses to keep track of their own schedules or contact colleagues to swap shifts, according to the Portland Business Journal. Developed by Joe Novello, RN, an ER nurse who also serves as CEO of the company, the app has users registered in 45 states.

NurseGrid is closing its seed funding round and plans to expand into a subscription-based service that ties all the nurses’ individual schedules together into one interactive interface, according to the report.
