The Rochester, Minn.-based health system teamed up with TripleBlind in March, leading the startup’s initial $8.2 million funding round. In addition to the financial support, Mayo established a partnership with TripleBlind on data analysis and algorithm training to increase interoperability of encrypted algorithms for private data.
Mayo has been using TripleBlind’s application programming interface for research, but the company does not have access to any of the health system’s data.
“Bringing together AI algorithms and data in ways that preserve privacy and intellectual property is one of the keys to delivering the next generation of digital medicine,” John Halamka, MD, president of Mayo Clinic Platform, said in the news release. Dr. Halamka also joined TripleBlind as an observer.
In addition to Mayo and General Catalyst, other participants in the funding round included Accenture Ventures, NextGen Venture Partners and Dolby Family Ventures.
