Mayo Clinic to develop training, command center for Epic EHR upgrade

Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic filed a permit last week to renovate a nearby building into a training and command center for its EHR migration, according to the Minnesota Post-Bulletin.

The 165,000-square-foot building is part of Mayo Clinic’s effort to create a single EHR and revenue cycle management system. The consolidated EHR and RCM system will replace the three separate EHRs — run by Cerner and GE — that Mayo Clinic currently uses.

Mayo Clinic awarded Epic — the vendor officials chose to implement the integrated system — a $1.5 billion contract in 2015. Epic and Mayo Clinic staff will use the new center as a place to plan the clinic’s EHR and RCM transition. The facility will also serve as a location for staff to train clinic employees on the new system.

The new center will be operational by July 2017, according to the Post-Bulletin.
