The reduction will put the global IT spend at $3.5 trillion. The new numbers are lower than Gartner’s April forecast, which estimated spending would fall 1.3 percent to $3.66 trillion by the end of the year.

Spending on enterprise software is projected to fall 1.2 percent to $310 billion in 2015, down from $314 billion in 2014. Additionally, global spend on devices is expected to reach $654 billion this year, down from $693 billion in 2014, according to the report.

Gartner says some of the decline in spending is due to fewer hardware upgrades and more software-as-a-service selections.
