- Researchers at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., have begun using an artificial intelligence-powered blood test that can detect fetal heart defects. Ray Bahdo Singh, MD, lead researcher, cited the minimally invasive nature of the blood test as a first step in creating a postnatal care plan for infants. However, Dr. Singh also warned that more extensive studies are needed to validate the findings.
- Researchers at Iowa City-based University of Iowa Healthcare are developing an artificial intelligence-based tool to treat interventional radiology patients — with or without a physician operating it. Led by interventional radiologist Sandeep Laroia, MD, the team is creating an algorithmic-based device that would determine the course of treatment for patients with simple ailments.
- Atlantic City, N.J.-based AtlantiCare will implement the Orbita virtual artificial intelligence platform across its system, which includes more than 100 locations across Southern New Jersey. Orbita can translate patient questions into clinical language; additionally, Orbita is trained to recognize and translate more than 100 languages. The health system hopes the AI assistant will help patients manage their appointments.
- Temple Health has partnered with artificial intelligence healthcare company Aidoc to integrate its platform into Temple’s system in order to improve clinical efficiency and to reduce the overall costs of care. The Aidoc AI Care Platform will be implemented across the Philadelphia-based health system’s facilities in order to target the cardiovascular, neurosciences and radiology service lines with the aim of optimizing clinical operations.
- Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic is partnering with medical diagnostics company Numares to develop reliable artificial intelligence-powered testing for patients with chronic diseases.
