The 2019 awards received a record 4,300 entries across 22 categories. A winner was chosen in each category, while 483 other companies and products received recognition.
In the health category, a total of 30 honorees were chosen: one winner, nine finalists and 20 honorable mentions. Here, according to Fast Company, are the top 10 innovative healthcare designs, beginning with the award-winning design:
1. MedModular (EIR Healthcare): a modular, customizable hospital room.
2. Immunotherapy bioprocessing device (Draper, Sprout Studios): a low-cost system for bioprocessing related to CAR-T cell therapy.
3. Can Go (Can Mobilities, Studio 20 Design): a safety-enhancing “smart” cane.
4. Galaxy Watch Active (Samsung): a smartwatch that offers recommendations to improve health and wellbeing.
5. Kindbody (Islyn Studio): an IVF and egg-freezing facility.
6. Pattern (Pattern, Herbst Produkt): a medical diagnostic system to speed diagnosis and antibiotic prescribing.
7. Roo (Planned Parenthood, Work & Co): a chatbot providing teenagers with information about reproductive health and relationships.
8. Rotational Spine Protection System (Adamsfour, Edera Safety, Autodesk): a vest-like system to prevent injury-causing spinal over-rotation.
9. Wahoo Indoor Cycling Ecosystem (Wahoo Fitness): a stationary bike training system and immersive experience powered by connected fitness technology.
10. Wheel Pad (Wheel Pad L3C): a wheelchair-accessible bedroom and bathroom suite that connects to an existing home.
