Oracle Health’s month was dominated by its expanding federal footprint — a bigger VA contract and three more medical center go-lives — alongside a new AI-powered patient portal and continued fallout from last year’s Cerner data breach.
Here are four times Becker’s has reported on the nation’s second-largest EHR vendor in the past month:
1. Oracle Health’s new AI-powered patient portal became generally available to patients across the U.S., Becker’s reported Aug. 12. The portal integrates directly with Oracle’s EHR, letting patients review visit summaries, medications and upcoming labs, while an embedded AI assistant answers questions in plain language and cites its sources. The tool is built to block diagnoses or treatment recommendations, directing patients to their care provider or 911 instead.
2. Oracle Health’s confirmed data breach victim list grew to 28 hospitals and health systems, Becker’s reported Aug. 17. The breach stems from a hack of Oracle Health’s legacy Cerner systems that occurred as early as Jan. 22, 2025, and organizations have continued to notify patients as the investigation proceeds.
3. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs boosted its Oracle Health EHR modernization contract by nearly $17 billion, raising its total value to just under $27 billion, Becker’s reported Aug. 19. The increase, which extends the contract’s period of performance to May 16, 2031, followed an Aug. 12 report that VA had reached its contract ceiling sooner than planned, citing unanticipated technical complexity and site-specific customization needs that slowed the rollout.
4. The VA went live with Oracle Health’s EHR at three more medical centers — the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, along with sites in Fort Wayne and Marion, Ind. — and 16 associated clinics Aug. 22, Becker’s reported. The rollout gave about 102,000 more veterans and 6,000 staff access to the new system, bringing the VA’s total 2026 go-lives to 11.
