How blockchain will influence healthcare delivery

By adopting blockchain-based solutions, healthcare providers can create an environment that connects patients, family members, care coordinators, providers and other permissioned parties, according to an op-ed in the Cointelegraph by Pradeep Goel, CEO of Solve.Care.

Blockchain technology allows authorized personnel to instantly access medical data, or other information stored on the blockchain. Information stored on the blockchain is available instantaneously and updated in real-time.

Additionally, because blockchains are decentralized, the information on the chain is traceable and transparent. This can simplify the processes of planning and executing a patient’s healthcare experience.

From a provider’s standpoint, blockchain solutions would allow them to receive immediate feedback from a patient regarding whether an intervention is working. Providers would have more ability to identify and mitigate total risk to patients.

“Overall, a successful blockchain-based care coordination model will facilitate continuous care oversight, timely interventions, and ultimately, better care outcomes throughout its entire care continuum of care, from primary and preventative care to specialist and long-term care,” Mr. Goel wrote.
