HL7 releases new set of FHIR interoperability standards

Health Level Seven International, an Ann Arbor, Mich.-based nonprofit organization, published the third version of its Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources standards framework, according to a post on the HL7 FHIR Product Blog.

HL7 develops standards for electronic health information, particularly in regards to data exchange, integration and retrieval. The new FHIR framework, called FHIR release 3, includes updates related to implementation, internal quality review and alignment with other standards.

“We expect that the FHIR specification will continue to evolve in the future as we responds [sic] to the interoperability needs of the robust FHIR implementation community,” according to the HL7 blog post.
