HIMSS Survey Shows HIT Supported But More Resources Needed

A survey of healthcare organizations by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society found that respondents embrace the clinical transformation of information, but more resources are needed to improve total information transparency, according to a HIMSS news release.

Survey respondents measured the clinical transformation within their organizations, governance and leadership, organizational behavior and patient data access.

Here are four of the survey’s key findings:

•    49 percent of respondents indicated they are focused on installing a fully operational electronic health record system.
•    35 percent of respondents have easy access to electronic data.
•    58 percent of respondents say they utilize business intelligence tools to
help with quality reporting.
•    75 percent of respondents say they need more IT resources to fully conduct quality measures.
