HIMSS 14 by the Numbers

The Health Information Management Systems Society’s annual conference is being held this week in Orlando. Representatives from healthcare organizations, vendors and government officials gathered to discuss the future of health IT.

Here’s HIMSS 14 by the numbers:

38,828: Total registration for HIMSS 14, making it the largest HIMSS conference to date.

6,939: Total number of provider organizations represented.

4,628: Total number of C-suite executives in attendance.

6,100: Number of seats in the Valencia Room at the Orange County Convention Center, where former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton delivered a keynote address Wednesday. More than 6,100 attendees filled the standing-room only space as Ms. Clinton praised health IT leaders for helping to improve care quality while reducing costs.

210: Number of days until Oct. 1, when all providers in the U.S. must use ICD-10 coding. There will be no more delays, according to CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner’s keynote presentation.

3: Number of years by which the U.S. could have a national health information exchange, according to National Coordinator for Health IT Karen DeSalvo, MD, in her keynote speech Thursday.
