HHS’ Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response issued the ASPR Lifeline Facebook Application Developer Challenge in collaboration with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Applications will be judged on their ability to enhance community connections and improve individual preparedness. Specifically, HHS is looking for an app that allows Facebook users to invite three Facebook friends to become lifelines in case of an emergency. Other goals of the app include ease of use on basic mobile devices, geographic information system locating features or tagging and connecting with other social media and emergency relief technologies.
The person or team with the best application will receive $10,000 from HHS and will work with the government and Facebook to implement the application within weeks of its selection. The second place winner will be awarded $5,000 and third place $1,000.
The challenge will close Nov. 4.
