The online hub would be used to perform verification functions for determining insurance eligibility and enrollment. The hub is important, as states are required to build health insurance exchanges by 2014 as a part of the new healthcare reform law. CMS has yet to determine what sorts of verification functions the hub would include, according to the news report.
The Health IT Policy Committee has already endorsed a panel’s proposals that states use existing infrastructures to verify enrollment and eligibility information for those applying for health programs.
