Epic’s auditorium wins architectural award

The Associated General Contractors of America deemed Epic System’s Deep Space auditorium as best new building over $200 million, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.

Additionally, the Madison, Wis.-based contractor who built the auditorium, JP Cullen, received the Alliant Build American Grand Award.

Deep Space beat out 21 other submissions for the best new building award. The auditorium is 73 feet underground and was designed to blend with the rural landscape, according to the report.

The 800,000-square-foot auditorium has 11,400 seats and features a 70-by-40-foot screen, according to the report. More than 1,400 employees helped build the auditorium, which ended up requiring 33.3 million pounds of steel.
