Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Heritage Medical Associates will link their EHR systems beginning Nov. 1 in a move designed to streamline care for patients shared between the two organizations.
Under the agreement, Heritage will join Vanderbilt’s Epic Community Connect network, giving its clinicians access to the same electronic platform used across Vanderbilt Health. The connection will allow records to update in real time across both systems, so physicians at either organization can view patient information, test results and prescriptions without delays or duplicate work, according to an Oct. 24 news release.
Epic, the largest medical record vendor in the U.S., offers the Community Connect model, under which Vanderbilt will act as host, providing Heritage access to its Epic infrastructure and support. Heritage will pay a fee for the service, which avoids the cost and complexity of implementing Epic independently.
