Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health has invested $4.5 million to launch a shared Epic EHR system with Sacramento-based WellSpace Health, one of the region’s largest federally qualified health center networks.

The integration brings both organizations onto Epic, giving clinicians real-time access to patient data such as lab results, medications, allergies and clinical notes, according to a Sept. 16 news release. Leaders from both organizations said the effort is intended to reduce fragmented care and improve continuity, particularly for patients who face barriers to healthcare.

The change is expected to benefit patients who receive primary care at WellSpace clinics and hospital services at Sutter facilities by allowing physicians across both systems to access shared records.
