ONC developed the strategic plan in collaboration with more than 25 federal organizations and in support of the provisions in the 21st Century Cures Act. The draft is now open for public comment until March 18.
Under the guidelines, healthcare stakeholders such as providers, payers and researchers will increasingly use health IT tools and systems that offer individual patients access to their health information, provide for tracking and managing of their healthcare treatments and allow for interactions with their health providers.
The final 2020-2025 strategic plan will guide federal agencies and fuel private sector alignment. Agency officials can leverage the plan to prioritize resources, streamline efforts across agencies, signal priorities to the private sector and assess changes over time.
