From collaborating with Penn Medicine on a new multispecialty outpatient facility to filing a lawsuit alleging the fraudulent access and monetization of sensitive patient data through national health information exchange frameworks, here are seven updates on Epic’s operations, software products and partnerships Becker’s Hospital Review reported in January.
- In a Jan. 20 filing in Tarrant County District Court, Epic denied allegations from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton that it monopolizes the electronic health record market and unlawfully restricts parental access to minors’ medical records, arguing in a court filing that the state’s claims are legally and factually flawed.
- Greensboro, N.C.-based Cone Health said patients applying for Social Security Disability Insurance can now authorize the Social Security Administration to directly access their medical records through Epic.
- On Jan. 31, South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, Magee General Hospital, Covington County Hospital in Collins, Simpson General Hospital in Mendenhall and Smith County Emergency Hospital in Raleigh will go live with an Epic EHR system.
- Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine’s Chief Health Information Officer Srinath Adusumalli, MD, told Becker’s the health system is working with Epic to reimagine workflows, technology integration and the patient experience at Penn Medicine Montgomeryville, a new multispecialty outpatient facility slated to open in 2027 in Montgomeryville, Pa.
- On Jan. 13, Epic alongside Reid Health (Richmond, Ind.), Trinity Health (Livonia, Mich.) and UMass Memorial Health (Worcester, Mass.) filed a lawsuit accusing Health Gorilla and a network of companies and individuals of fraudulently accessing and monetizing sensitive patient medical records through national health information exchange frameworks.
- On Jan. 31, East Lansing, Mich.-based MSU Health Care will transition to Epic’s EHR and billing system Jan. 31 through a new partnership with Detroit-based Henry Ford Health.
- A Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare spokesperson told Becker’s that the organization plans to transition its newly acquired hospital from Los Angeles-based Prospect Medical Holdings to an Epic EHR system.
