Over 130,000 individuals have enrolled to be organ donors through a new feature on Epic’s MyChart patient portal.

The EHR vendor launched the organ donation button in May, and since then half of its health system customers have adopted the tool, according to a late January news release. More than 20,000 people registered in December alone.

In the past seven months, 6,000-plus patients of Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health have become organ donors through MyChart. Meanwhile, at Corewell Health, headquartered in Grand Rapids and Southfield, Mich., upward of 2,300 patients have signed up in three months.
