From releasing new features for its EHR system to 28 new health system EHR go-lives, here are 10 updates on Epic’s operations, software products, and partnerships reported by Becker’s Hospital Review in August:
- Epic named 64 U.S. health systems to its Honor Roll for 2025. Launched in 2017, the EHR vendor’s voluntary Honor Roll Good Maintenance Grant Program provides financial incentives to health systems that adopt its best practices — and latest features.
- On Aug. 19 at Epic’s Users Group Meeting in Verona, Wis., the vendor introduced new features for its EHR. Some of these features include: AI for self-scheduling, MyChart Central and AI-generated notes to name a few.
- Epic also formally welcomed 28 new health system customers at its annual Users Group meeting.
- Bowling Green, Ky.-based Med Center Health announced it will implement Epic’s EHR system across its hospitals and clinics, with the rollout expected to be complete by the end of 2026.
- New York City-based Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center reported an operating loss of $113.2 million for the first half of 2025, citing rising expenses and one-time costs related to its Epic EHR implementation.
- CNBC recently interviewed Judy Faulkner, billionaire founder and CEO of Epic Systems. In the conversation, Ms. Faulkner explained why she has resisted taking Epic public or selling the company, and offered insight into how the EHR vendor operates.
- Health Data Atlas, a data-as-a-service company, bid $30 billion to acquire Epic Systems. Ms. Faulkner rejected that bid.
- Waukon, Iowa-based Veterans Memorial Hospital reported a financial loss from a recent Epic EHR implementation. Veterans Memorial Hospital ended July with a loss of $430,135, which included about $500,000 for the Epic implementation that had already been paid out and couldn’t be capitalized.
- Midland, Mich.-based MyMichigan Health expanded its Epic EHR to a fifth organization, partnering with Nimkee Memorial Wellness Center in Mount Pleasant, which serves the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, through Epic’s Community Connect program.
- New York City-based Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center unified its Epic EHR on Aug. 6.
