Digital therapy startup Talkspace raises $50M, partners with Optum: 4 notes

Talkspace, a New York City-based telebehavioral health startup, announced this week the close of its $50 million Series D funding round and a new partnership with UnitedHealth Group's Optum.

Four notes:

1. The latest influx of funding was led by Revolution Growth, with previous investors Norwest Venture Partners, Qumra Capital, Spark Capital and Compound Ventures also participating. Talkspace has raised a total of $110 million since its 2012 founding.

2. The Series D round closes as the company launches a "key partnership" with Optum's behavioral health solutions, according to Lynn Hamilton, Talkspace's chief commercial officer.

3. The partnership and funding will allow Talkspace to expand its digital therapy offerings to more than 5 million users, move into international markets and improve the quality of its care.

4. To date, Talkspace has connected more than 1 million individuals with its network of 5,000 licensed therapists. The HIPAA-compliant platform allows unlimited therapy sessions via text, video, picture and audio messages, as well as psychiatry services such as prescription fulfillment and couples counseling.
