Kettering (Ohio) Health has confirmed that patient data was breached in a ransomware attack earlier this year.
The 14-hospital system said in a July notice that an unauthorized party viewed or took certain files and folders between April 9 and May 20. Kettering Health took its IT systems offline May 20 after discovering the hack.
Kettering Health said the compromised data may have included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, diagnoses, treatments, and financial account information. The health system said it is still determining exactly which information was breached and will notify affected patients on a rolling basis.
The health system attributed the cyberattack to the ransomware group Interlock, which claims to have stolen hundreds of thousands of files from Kettering Health.
